THE Surf Coast Shire has pushed its decision about whether to sell land to enable a major retirement village in Torquay into next week.<\/p>\n
Councillors were to consider the motion about the discontinuance and sale of Cypress Lane and sale of portion of Reserve No. 3 at their scheduled monthly meeting for September, which will be held today (Tuesday, September 26)<\/p>\n
However, in an announcement on Thursday last week, the shire stated it would instead consider this matter at a special council meeting on Tuesday, October 3, as Tuesday’s meeting was in Lorne.<\/p>\n
“The item has been moved to the meeting on October 3 at the Council Chambers in Torquay to make it more accessible for Torquay residents who wish to attend.”<\/p>\n
The shire’s decison follows the council’s August meeting, where a majority of councillors resolved to grant a planning permit for the use and development of a retirement village in Cypress Lane.<\/p>\n
The retirement village will contain 196 independent living units comprising 120 detached single storey independent living units and three apartment buildings comprising 16 one-bedroom apartments and 60 two-bedroom apartments.<\/p>\n
There wll be 355 car parking spaces across the site, with single and double garages provided for each independent living unit (for a total of 235 spaces).<\/p>\n
