A CREW of Torquay taekwondo athletes are still pinching themselves after competing at one of the sport’s most prestigious events on the Australian circuit.<\/p>\n

Endurance Martial Arts Taekwondo head instructor Alistair Lawson said he was extremely proud of the team being part of the Korean Taekwondo Association (KTA) Australian National Titles, held at the Nissan Arena in Brisbane last month.<\/p>\n

“It’s exciting to be a part of a real traditional Taekwondo Championship,” Lawson said.<\/p>\n

“Everyone attending is very positive and friendly and it’s a great atmosphere for a competition and one we will always remember.”<\/p>\n

Endurance Taekwondo competitors Chloe Williams, Kelly Ryan, David Leong, Lucas Leong, Lawson, and Evie Hammond attended the event, competing against more than 400 students from all over Australia, in a variety of events such as sparring, patterns, breaking, speed kicking, jumping kick and flying side kick disciplines.<\/p>\n

A combination of hard work, weeks of preparation and determination culminated at the national titles for all six athletes.<\/p>\n

The group managed to win 12 gold medals and seven silver medals, and all six students became national champions.<\/p>\n

On top of this success, Williams was also awarded “Most Outstanding Poomsae Athlete” of the competition for her technique and style throughout her events.<\/p>\n

“What a fantastic way to finish off the competition calendar for the year,” Lawson said.<\/p>\n

“Students have no time to relax though as they finish their preparation for their up and coming grading to finish the term.”<\/p>\n
