THE next Community Conversations event in the Anglesea Futures series has been announced, with a twoday open house to be held at the end of this month.
\nThe open house is an opportunity for the local community and those with an interest in the Anglesea River to provide further input for the future management of the river.
\nAlcoa continued to pump water into the Anglesea River after the power station and mine\u2019s closure last August.
\ncatchment into the estuary will continue.
\nThe Anglesea River Estuary Flow Assessment report, for the community and Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) to work toward a long-term option that will secure the estuary’s values into the future.
\nA feasibility study on several options identified by the report is to be completed in time for public discussion at this month\u2019s meeting.
\nThe Anglesea Futures Community Conversations series \u2013 organised by the state government and the Surf Coast Shire \u2013 has covered a range of issues including future land use, water, planning and the long-term vision for the Anglesea Region after the closure of the Alcoa coalmine and power station.
\n\u201cHow we manage the Anglesea River in the future is important and we are continuing to assess future management options for the Anglesea River to ensure the environmental and social values of the river are protected,\u201d Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water Lisa Neville said.
\n\u201cWe are working with the local community \u2013 their input into the future management of the Anglesea River is critical to securing the estuary\u2019s values for the decades to come.\u201d
\nThe Anglesea Futures Community Conversations open house will be held at the Anglesea Memorial Hall on April 29 from 4-8pm and April 30 from 10am-3pm.
