BELLBRAE Cemetery is set to expand, unveiling plans to meet the increasing demands of the community.<\/p>\n

Renowned for its rich history, the Bellbrae Public Cemetery – also recognised as Jan Juc and Puebla Cemetery – has been an integral part of the local community since its inception in March 1864.<\/p>\n

Trust member Mel Howard said there was always a lot happening at the cemetery.<\/p>\n

“Many people may not be aware that the Bellbrae Cemetery is run by a group of volunteer trust members who are actively involved in the management of the cemetery.”<\/p>\n

These members meet quarterly and actively participate in the cemetery’s daily operations.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Their responsibilities range from attending interments and facilitating plot sales to joining focus groups and maintenance activities.<\/p>\n

“The past few months have been particularly busy with the creation and extension of several ashes interment gardens,” she said.<\/p>\n

These new sections feature native gardens, rose gardens, and the premium Callistemon rock-walled garden.<\/p>\n

The cemetery’s next major project is the development of the Northern Section.<\/p>\n

This development will eventually double the size of the existing cemetery.<\/p>\n

The trust is also actively seeking new members.<\/p>\n

While there is a governance component involved in being a trust member, a well-rounded trust is the objective.<\/p>\n

“We value community service experience, skills in administration, record keeping, policy maintenance, and financial management,” Ms. Howard said.<\/p>\n

“Knowledge in areas like information technology, project management, the funeral sector, marketing, and business management are equally appreciated. “Additionally, those with an interest in landscape or grounds maintenance and horticulture are encouraged to join.”<\/p>\n

She said it was an excellent opportunity for those who wish to contribute to the community and be a part of Bellbrae Cemetery’s growth.<\/p>\n
