THE Freemasons Lodge of the Great Ocean Road in Torquay recently celebrated an exceptional member of the community, 98-year-old Don Maringer, by presenting him with a 60-year jewel and certificate to recognise his dedication and commitment.<\/p>\n
Born and raised on a wheat farm in the Mallee, Mr Maringer’s early educational journey was unique. His formative years were spent learning via correspondence, an indication of his tenacity and drive.<\/p>\n
This distant education carried him up to Year 10. Later, he boarded at Brighton Grammar School where he completed his Leaving Certificate.<\/p>\n
Mr Maringer’s passion for education didn’t end there; he chose to shape the minds of the younger generation and embarked on a career as a primary school teacher.<\/p>\n
His dedication and leadership qualities were evident as he eventually rose to the position of Principal at Forest St Primary School in Wendouree.<\/p>\n
Mr Maringer remains spirited and involved in his local community. He’s a testament to active ageing, still making his mark on the greens as a member of the Torquay Bowling Club. Not only does he play twice weekly, but he also participates in the pennant every Saturday.<\/p>\n
