This month, RSL members throughout Australia will take to the streets to sell Anzac Appeal badges to raise money for their sub-branches\u2019 Welfare Funds.
\nThis year marks the Centenary of the RSL, which The funds raised are used by the RSL to assist veterans, young and old, who may need help and assistance.
\nTorquay RSL volunteers will be selling the badges outside IGA, Woolworths and Coles from Wednesday April 13 until Anzac Day Monday 25 April.
\nAccording to Torquay RSL president Ian Gilbank, funds raised from sale of the badges are shared between the RSL Victorian Branch Patriotic Welfare Fund and the Torquay RSL Sub-Branch.
\nMr Gilbank is confident the local community will once again generously support the RSL\u2019s annual Anzac Appeal.
\n\u201cOur RSL volunteers, many of them veterans, are ready to offer a variety of new Anzac Appeal badges,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cThe high level of energy and commitment shown by our Sub-Branch volunteers as they raise the much needed funds for their fellow veterans who may not be travelling so well, is truly humbling.\u201d
\nAccording to RSL Victoria\u2019s Appeals Manager, Peter Smith, the funds raised through the Anzac Appeal enable the RSLs in Victoria to deliver much needed assistance to those men and women who have served our country.
\n\u201cThe way in which the RSL provides that support varies from case to case but it can include such things as the provision of mobility devices, assistance with medical and other household expenses, education and employment assistance and even food vouchers.
\n\u201cIncreasingly, the support is being directed to a much younger cohort of veterans, those from the of East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan\u201d.
\nMr Gilbank said that the prime objective of the RSL was to support and assist all ex-service people and their families particularly with pension and welfare assistance.
\n\u201cI do encourage the community to engage with our RSL, attend our commemorative Anzac Day Dawn Service at Point Danger and to show they care by buying and wearing an Anzac Appeal badge with pride this April.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
