THE 3230 Rubbish Rangers group has been lauded for their dedication to the local environmental and received a national volunteer award for their efforts.<\/p>\n
The local environmental unit received a special certificate from the Federal Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan last week to thank them for their commitment to keeping the town of Anglesea tidy during the past twelve months.<\/p>\n
Established in 2021, the 3230 Rubbish Rangers has more than 40 members who collect rubbish each weekend throughout Anglesea and on the “mad mile” road strip between Anglesea and Bellbrae.<\/p>\n
Volunteer John McIntrye said the group was humbled to receive their first national award.<\/p>\n
“We don’t really know who nominated us, but we are just absolutely thrilled to be recognised with this honour.<\/p>\n
“We aren’t sure how many awards Dan and his office gave out, but we are most certainly privileged to be one of them.<\/p>\n
“Many people have noticed the town has become tidier over the last few years and it’s become a very social activity.<\/p>\n
“We clean-up for an hour or two, and then head off and have a coffee and socialise for another few.<\/p>\n
“There’s eight-year-olds and there’s 80-year-olds. Everyone is welcome and we’ve got a regular spread of different ages each time.”<\/p>\n
Mr McIntyre said the group continued to be humbled by the community and local businesses who support them.<\/p>\n
“We continue to get anonymous donations from our community and local organisations who recognise the power of our work.<\/p>\n
“Darcy from Hayden’s is still buying us our coffees each weekend.<\/p>\n
“We are very appreciative of these kinds of gestures.”<\/p>\n
The 3230 Rubbish Rangers meet at the Anglesea Bowling Club each Saturday at 9am.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
