RESIDENTS across the Surf Coast will stop what they’re doing at 11am on Saturday, November 11 to remember those who gave their lives in times of war and conflict as part of Remembrance Day.<\/p>\n
Services will be held at local memorials throughout local towns across the region on the 11th hour of next Saturday, honouring armed services personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice.<\/p>\n
November 11 will mark 105 years since the Armistice of World War I was signed, which inspired the Remembrance Day proceedings now held globally.<\/p>\n
Torquay RSL will lead commemorations across the region, inviting the community to attend its service from 10.30am at Point Danger.<\/p>\n
Torquay president Bob Brackin said Remembrance Day was a very important day not only for veterans but also their families.<\/p>\n
“We would like to see poppies being worn everywhere on Remembrance Day to show that we do remember the sacrifices made and knowing every dollar raised helps ex-service people and their families whenever there is a need.<\/p>\n
“The 11th of November is always a very special time for all Australians.<\/p>\n
“At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, people in towns and cities throughout Australia pause to remember the sacrifices made by so many in times of war.<\/p>\n
“It is on Remembrance Day, above all other days, that we recall the women and men who, through personal sacrifices, contributed to the evolution and identity of our country, Australia.<\/p>\n
“We must never forget how much we owe to them.<\/p>\n
“People wearing the red poppy provide a sign that we are not forgetting them.”<\/p>\n
