{"id":120736,"date":"2023-11-05T18:29:44","date_gmt":"2023-11-05T07:29:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=120736"},"modified":"2023-11-05T18:41:05","modified_gmt":"2023-11-05T07:41:05","slug":"national-recognition-for-lorne-lifesaver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/national-recognition-for-lorne-lifesaver\/","title":{"rendered":"National recognition for Lorne lifesaver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lorne Surf Life Saving Club talent Sophie Carne has secured one of lifesaving\u2019s most respected individual accolades at last night\u2019s 2023 SLSA National Awards of Excellence (Saturday, November 4).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lorne SLSC patrol vice-captain and co-first aid officer Sophie Carne was awarded Youth Surf Lifesaver of the Year at SLSA\u2019s annual awards ceremony, hosted at The WINX Stand at Randwick Racecourse, New South Wales.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ms Carne\u2019s contributions to her local club over the past year set her apart from her fellow finalists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SLSA\u2019s judging committee touched on several of Ms Carne\u2019s important milestones, including streamlining her club\u2019s restocking process for first aid supplies, implementing a QR code system for the club\u2019s replenishment processes, and helping ensure the club had an ample supply of vital medical resources at the annual Pier to Pub event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSophie\u2019s leadership extends to the creation of the Pink Patrol, promoting gender inclusivity in lifesaving, and launching the innovative Leadership Patrol, focusing on personal development for current and future leaders,\u201d SLSA\u2019s awards declaration on Ms Carne said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cShe introduced vital new roles, such as the Mental Health and Wellbeing Officer and Sustainability Officer, underscoring her commitment to member well-being and sustainability.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSophie\u2019s environmental commitment is embodied in the Green Patrol, reducing plastic waste by replacing single-use bottles with eco-friendly alternatives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBeyond her club roles, Sophie\u2019s pursuit of a medical degree enhances her lifesaving expertise, while her diverse community engagements showcase her broader impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ms Carne was also awarded Youth Life Saver of the Year at Life Saving Victoria\u2019s Awards of Excellence earlier this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lorne Surf Life Saving Club talent Sophie Carne has secured one of lifesaving\u2019s most respected individual accolades at last night\u2019s 2023 SLSA National Awards of Excellence (Saturday, November 4).
