THE Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) has announced it has scheduled autumn planned burning in the Otways to start from early this week, weather permitting.
\nThe burns near Lorne include a 299-hectare burn at Five Mile Track about two kilometres north-west of Lorne, and a 46-hectare burn one kilometre west of the town.
\nDELWP Otway District manager David Rourke said the burns were an integral part of a local plan prepared in consultation with communities and communities.
\n\u201cIt is vital that we take every opportunity to complete these burns whenever conditions are suitable and it is safe to do so.
\n\u201cForest Fire Management with Parks Victoria and CFA work closely with the Bureau of Meteorology and will only do planned burns when conditions such as humidity, temperature and wind speed are right.
