{"id":122316,"date":"2023-12-03T04:00:22","date_gmt":"2023-12-02T17:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=122316"},"modified":"2023-11-29T14:41:40","modified_gmt":"2023-11-29T03:41:40","slug":"torquay-college-to-continue-transition-program-in-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/torquay-college-to-continue-transition-program-in-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Torquay College to continue Transition Program in 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORQUAY College is offering its Transition Program in 2024 following a successful launch over the past two months.<\/p>\n<p>Since October, the local primary school has hosted hands on workshops for kinder students transitioning to primary schooling in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The program offers children the opportunity to explore sciences, sports, performing arts and dance and cooking.<\/p>\n<p>Torquay College assistant principal, Simon Pocervina said the program has been a big hit in the local community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are really blessed at the college to have pretty grounds, including an environment centre, a double gym, a performing arts space, an industrial garden and some fantastic kitchen spaces for cooking.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Recently we have had many young children come through from all over the area for visits to let them participate in school-based activities which utilize these spaces.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been really important for us to bring them in and create a real community atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It helps bridge the gap and allows everyone to be apart of what we have here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Pocervina said key to the program&#8217;s success has been the buy in from the staff.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The staff and lead teacher Janelle Polworth have just been terrific with it all and putting the time in to creating the space for the children to thrive.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With their guidance, we will continue the program in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The program no doubt can help to alleviate some of the anxiety&#8217;s children might have with coming to school, particularly with the changes in social structures with the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can&#8217;t wait to have more children involved again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For more information and to get involved, head to<a href=\"http:\/\/www.torquaycollege.vic.edu.au\/\"> www.torquaycollege.vic.edu.au\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TORQUAY College is offering its Transition Program in 2024 following a successful launch over the past two months.
