RECONSTRUCTION of Horseshoe Bend Road at Thompson Creek Bridge in Mount Duneed kicked off this week in response to damage caused by last year’s major flooding.<\/p>\n
Cr Rose Hodge acknowledged the community’s frustration with the prolonged closure of the road.<\/p>\n
“We apologise for the time this project has taken and assure you that we are focused on getting these important repair works completed as soon as possible,” Cr Hodge said.<\/p>\n
Delays in the repair process were attributed to several challenges.<\/p>\n
“The repair works have been delayed for a number of reasons including an initial delay in getting the geotechnical assessment completed due to high demand following widespread flooding, as well as issues encountered during the planning and design process,” Cr Hodge said.<\/p>\n
“We know the road closure has impacted many, so thank you for your continued patience.”<\/p>\n
The road has been closed since late last year when part of the road near the Thompson Creek bridge was damaged during a flood.<\/p>\n
The reconstruction, which includes the installation of new guardrails, aims to better withstand the impact of future extreme rain events.<\/p>\n
The council said in a statement that they will make every effort to ensure that the section of road will be open to traffic in time for Christmas.<\/p>\n
The road will then be closed again to allow the works to be completed.<\/p>\n
All works are expected to be finished by late April 2024.<\/p>\n
