In a heart-warming tradition, “Adopt a Surfcoaster” returns for its eighth year, aiming to bring joy to families facing challenges during the holiday season.<\/p>\n
It all began when Gail Macrae observed a Kmart Wishing Tree and, uncertain about where the gifts were headed, decided to create something herself.<\/p>\n
“I noticed a need in our community that wasn’t being met,” Ms Macrae said.<\/p>\n
Initially, Ms Macrae took on the venture alone for a few years, but later, friend and fellow mum Liza Graham joined forces, and the two have been managing it together ever since.<\/p>\n
“This year is going to be quite busy; we had 36 children register before we even reached December.”<\/p>\n
“But we simply roll up our sleeves and get it done.”<\/p>\n
Ms Macrae doesn’t use a sleigh, but rather fills up her car boot and then hits the road.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on the challenging year endured by the community, Ms Macrae said there was an increased need for support.<\/p>\n
“If you are a family grappling with financial struggles, dealing with illness, facing job loss, experiencing domestic violence, or simply burdened with the added responsibility of providing a special Christmas for your little ones, we are here to help,” she said.<\/p>\n
The service operates a Facebook page, they post what a family wants and then \u2014 often at lightning speed \u2014 enthusiastic followers write in the comments if they can fill the order.<\/p>\n
Big brands have also thrown their support behind the initiative.<\/p>\n
“Ghanda, Archie’s, Roxy, Rip Curl, Quicksilver, Cotton On and all the big names help out.”<\/p>\n
All activities are conducted with utmost discretion and confidentiality, ensuring both families seeking assistance remain entirely anonymous.<\/p>\n
The initiative guarantees a safe and secure space for those reaching out for help.<\/p>\n
“If you, or someone you know, needs that extra little bit of help this Christmas, send us a private message via this page. Together, we can make a difference,” Ms Macrae urged.<\/p>\n
McCartney Real Estate will be helping out this year by hosting a wishing tree where gifts can be dropped off.<\/p>\n
