A BELLBRAE Primary School student’s Grade 5 school project is battling homelessness one tattoo at a time.<\/p>\n
Ten-year-old Torquay resident Josh Newbould will deposit $100 to the Victorian Homeless Fund this week, as part of his school’s major fundraising event of the year where students decide to raise money for a charity of their choice.<\/p>\n
“I think everyone deserves to have a good and fair life, they don’t deserve to just be left on the street, that’s the mean reason why I decide to raise funds for homelessness,” Josh said.<\/p>\n
“Bellbrae Primary does a Charity Expo each year with Grade 5 where each student has to choose a charity to raise funds for, so I decided to raise money for homelessness.<\/p>\n
“I decided to sell temporary tattoos for a dollar, and I’ve made close to $100, which I think is a pretty good effort.”<\/p>\n
The Expo itself was held a fortnight ago with friends and family in attendance. Once complete, students could then deposit their funds raised after the expo had concluded, but Josh decided to take it a step further.<\/p>\n
Josh raised over $70 on the day alone, and with temporary tattoos left over, he decided to hit local playgrounds around Torquay and Jan Juc to reach his $100 target.<\/p>\n
Josh says he has enjoyed the experience of doing his first ever fundraiser.<\/p>\n
“It’s been great to know I’m helping people in need, it feels good, which is the main part.<\/p>\n
“I just like it and it was also a lot of fun selling tattoos as well.”<\/p>\n
Josh’s mother Izabela said she was proud of the initiative her son has shown over the past few weeks.<\/p>\n
“I think it takes a lot of courage to initiate something like this and to go beyond the requirements of school and take it to the next level,” Ms Newbould said.<\/p>\n
“And of course, none of this would be possible without the generosity of the community itself.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
