ENTRIES are now open for the fourth Lighthouse Classic with organisers aiming to raise $30,000 for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute in memory of event founder and Anglesea icon Janet Jones OAM.<\/p>\n

The January 14 event will see members of the community walk or run a 12km course from Urquharts Bluff to the Aireys Inlet Lighthouse to shine a light on cancer.<\/p>\n

Prior to her passing in 2021, Ms Jones was a board member for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute, assisting them with fundraising for the establishment of their regionally based cancer facility in Ballarat.<\/p>\n

Ms Jones battled cancer for 33 years, and launched the event in the hope she could help others impacted by the disease, while also sharing her love for walking in her local community.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The 2024 edition of the event will again be spearheaded by her son Harry, daughters Lucy and Felicity and husband Peter.<\/p>\n

“We are super excited to be bringing it back in mum’s memory for a fourth year,” Janet’s son Harry said.<\/p>\n

“We’ve been so humbled by the support over the last few years and have our sights set on trying raise as much money as possible.<\/p>\n

“If we can get to $30,000 this year, we will be stoked.<\/p>\n

“It will go a long way to funding a scientist for a year at the clinic.”<\/p>\n

Mr Jones said the event continues to grow in spades each year and become one his mother would be very proud of.<\/p>\n

“Last year we had more than 150 come together for the big walk itself and another 200 or so who did in their own time,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Mum would be super proud everyone is out enjoying the outdoors, mingling and raising funds for a great cause.<\/p>\n

“We can’t wait to see everyone for 2024.”<\/p>\n
