THE Surf Coast Shire has completed a $500,000 upgrade of Cape Otway Road, west of Moriac.
\nThe upgrade involved completely reconstructing a 1.2-kilometre section of road and adding new asphalt shoulders to improve safety and cater for increasing traffic volumes.
\nThe section of road from east of Moriac to just west of the bend at the Taylors Road intersection has been completely restructured and widened to seven metres with an additional one metre wide sealed shoulder added to either side of the road.
\nSignage and new line marking have also been completed as part of the project.
\nDuring the stabilisation works, a section of the roadway was washed away by a freak lateJanuary downpour that caused flash flooding throughout the Geelong region.
\nWinchelsea Ward councillor Carol McGregor said the upgrade would significantly improve safety on this section of Cape Otway Road.
\n\u201cThis is an important step to improving safety along Cape Otway Road and as a regular commuter it is pleasing to see the work complete.
\n\u201cPatience shown by the rural communities affected by the roadworks has been appreciated, knowing that improvements will make their travel through the area much safer over the long term.\u201d
