THE Torquay Lions Club has launched its annual Good Friday Appeal, setting an ambitious fundraising target of $80,000 after achieving a record-breaking result in 2023.<\/p>\n

Until Good Friday (March 29), volunteer tin shakers from Deakin University, the Torquay Lions Club and Torquay RSL will be out in the community collecting donations.<\/p>\n

Collectors will be posted at shopping centres around Torquay and Jan Juc, as well as caravan parks, key intersections and several other locations around the community.<\/p>\n

Donations can also be made using the Surf Coast Good Friday Appeal QR code.<\/p>\n

This year, the Surf Coast community donated more than $74,000 to the appeal, with the Lions\u2019 fundraising efforts contributing $41,500, more than triple the amount the club raised in 2022.<\/p>\n

Torquay Lions Club fundraising coordinator, Peter McMahon, hopes the community will dig deep once again to help raise funds for the children at The Royal Children\u2019s Hospital in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am sure, with plenty of support, we will achieve another record amount,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in tough times for many families and some small businesses who would normally donate to this wonderful project, but I know those who are able will give for the Children\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n

The Good Friday Appeal has been raising funds for The Royal Children’s Hospital since 1931 with donations supporting the hospital to purchase equipment, fund research, and provide ongoing education and training for its staff and family-centred care for its patients and their families.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlmost every family in Victoria has been touched in some way as the Children\u2019s Hospital has helped so many youngsters,\u201d Mr McMahon said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI recognise that times have not been so good for some people during the recent pandemic, but it is so often the ones who can spare the least that are the most generous.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Royal Children\u2019s Hospital needs our support now more than ever for research, new technology, rehabilitation and supporting the kids who need the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n
