MAJOR works have been completed at Stevensons Falls in the Otways, turning the popular visitor spot into an ecotourism destination.<\/p>\n

The Victorian government’s $2.35 million works at the site, south-west of Forrest, will allow more visitors and campers to enjoy the area, offers exciting new experiences and improved day visitor facilities.<\/p>\n

The 500m walkway to the base of the waterfall is now accessible for people of all abilities, making it one of the longest fully accessible walkways to a waterfall in Australia.<\/p>\n

Other new accessible facilities include a viewing platform at the base of the waterfall, a toilet block, pedestrian bridge, and parking.<\/p>\n

Two additional smaller trails have also been created to provide visitors with multiple avenues to explore the site, with the Redwoods Boardwalk showcasing the Californian redwoods and the Blue Spruce Walk taking visitors for an adventure beside the Gellibrand River.<\/p>\n

Day visitors can also enjoy a new dedicated picnic area, complete with picnic tables and river access, and a larger carpark.<\/p>\n

For those looking to stay in the area longer, the neighbouring campground has also been updated, with a new toilet, landscaping and drainage works recently completed.<\/p>\n

Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora officially opened the upgraded Stevensons Falls site in mid-December.<\/p>\n

“It’s so exciting to see this iconic site reopened ahead of the holidays, it will be a great attraction for the Otways and encourage more people to come and enjoy this beautiful part of the state.” she said.<\/p>\n

The Stevensons Falls project was part of the state government’s $106.6 million Victoria’s Great Outdoors initiative to create better walking trails, campgrounds, four-wheel drive tracks and visitor facilities to make it easier and affordable for everyone to explore our parks and forests.<\/p>\n

“More than 80,000 people visit Stevensons Falls every year and we expect that number to grow as more people to come and enjoy its great views and new trails,” Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos said.<\/p>\n
