FORMER Jan Juc SLSC junior Drew Green and Georgia Hawkins were victorious in the Danger 1000 main event of the Danger Ocean Swim Series.<\/p>\n

Saturday’s perfect weather greeted 1,028 registered swimmers who took on the series’ five race categories next to Point Danger at Torquay Front Beach.<\/p>\n

A total of 480 swimmers tackled the headline Danger 1000 swim.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Drew Green was the fastest swimmer in the 1000m event, taking top honours for a second time in his return home from Queensland for his home club’s swim event.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old was able to defeat seven-time Pier to Pub winner Sam Sheppard by over half a minute and third place getter Tristan Read from Lorne SLSC.<\/p>\n

He said he was thrilled to take top honours against a star-studded field.<\/p>\n

“It’s always good to come back home and support a club [Jan Juc SLSC] that has always supported me over the years,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The Jan Juc and the Surf Coast events are extremely special to me, and I felt very fortunate to get a win over some quality competitors, like Sam Sheppard.<\/p>\n

“I hope to build on this win over the next few months by chasing the Summer of Surf series rounds and continuing my training in preparation for Aussies.”<\/p>\n

Georgia Hawkins crossed the line first in the female category of the 1000m event, with Rachel Ward and Jasmine Hume securing second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n

Last year’s Rip View Classic winner in Point Lonsdale, Dakota Mathers won the Danger 5000 event, and Sam Sheppard took top honours in the men’s category.<\/p>\n

Other winners included Darius Schultz and Rachel Ward in the Danger 2500, as well as Keenan Gray and Zoe McKenna in the Danger 500.<\/p>\n

Jan Juc SLSC president Brett Thompson said the annual fundraising event was incredibly successful.<\/p>\n

“It was a terrific day for the club, with so many swimmers coming out and enjoying the great weather and swimming conditions,” he said.<\/p>\n

“A huge shoutout to the army of volunteers who gave up their time to help deliver it. It’s a huge undertaking, and we couldn’t do it without them.”<\/p>\n
