THE Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) is urging the community to continue providing feedback to its Accessible Beaches initiative following the installation of 60 metres of beach access matting on Anglesea’s shoreline.<\/p>\n

The initiative, done in partnership with Life Saving Victoria and local lifesaving clubs, aims to provide accessible pathways to four locations across the Surf Coast and Colac Otway shires.<\/p>\n

“We were thrilled to announce the installation of 60 metres of beach access matting along the Anglesea Riverbank,” a GORCAPA spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Beach matting provides a stable and accessible pathway across the sand, making it easier for beachgoers with mobility challenges, including those who use wheelchairs, walkers, or have difficulty walking on uneven surfaces, to access the beach.<\/p>\n

“Connected with the Four Kings Changing Place facility, parking, and universally accessible paths, this addition is designed for people who may experience sensory overload in busier areas.<\/p>\n

“It provides a serene space for all to relish the outdoors and water views along the Anglesea River.<\/p>\n

“For those seeking direct water access, Point Roadknight nearby is the perfect spot.”<\/p>\n

The consultation period set out by GORCAPA for its beach accessibility initiative will close on February 1.<\/p>\n

Beach matting will also be installed at Fishermans Beach in Torquay, Lorne Beach, and Apollo Bay Main Beach until the middle of April from year-to-year.<\/p>\n

GORCAPA officials installed matting at Point Roadknight before New Year’s Eve running from the beach’s disabled car park to the boat ramp.<\/p>\n

GORCAPA said it has already secured extra funding for other upgrades in Anglesea but remains receptive to feedback from residents ahead of the February 1 deadline.<\/p>\n

“We’ve received $28,000 of funding to upgrade the access matting near the “Shark Park” playground at Anglesea 4 Kings Carpark, $10,000 of funding to upgrade the all-abilities carpark at Point Roadknight as well as $10,000 to purchase a new piece of public beach mobility equipment to be located in Anglesea,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“We’re keen to hear your ideas and feedback to learn more about the beach mobility equipment you’d like us to purchase.<\/p>\n

“We’d also like to understand the current barriers that exist when accessing the public beach mobility equipment.”<\/p>\n
