Mr Robbins said he was a conduit of the community’s generosity and hoped the funds would help to make a difference to those in need.<\/p>\n
“I’m so thankful to the community for their amazing support, and for those who came and witnessed the shave last week,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I started growing my beard and my locks over two years ago, and before too long, I went from a crew cut, to a heavy beard and long hair.<\/p>\n
“I thought getting rid of it all would be a fantastic way to generate some funds for charity.<\/p>\n
“I couldn’t be happier to be honest. Foodlink is just an amazing organisation and I’m so thankful this will help them out.”<\/p>\n
Anglesea and Aireys Foodlink volunteer Margaret Renkin said the group was overwhelmed with Mr Robbins’ gesture.<\/p>\n
“We are absolutely thrilled and thank Phil and the Bowls Club for their support.<\/p>\n
“The old story of people thinking the area is affluent enough to not need support, is certainly not true.<\/p>\n
“Phil’s gesture will mean we won’t have to ask our community for money, allowing us to get more non-perishables items and food vouchers to those in need.<\/p>\n
