LORNE’S popular candle and castle competition will return for its 25th edition next month.<\/p>\n

More than 50 participants are expected to head to St George River on February 24 to build a sand sculpture and illuminate it under the night sky.<\/p>\n

The event has a “no rules, no age limit and no cost” mantra, and will feature plenty of exciting prizes donated by local businesses.<\/p>\n

Event founder Chloe Messner said locals were keen to get building after the 2023 event was called off due to bad weather.<\/p>\n

“It’s always popular, and there really isn’t anything like it anymore,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It’s low key, you roll up with your shovel, or mini digger and just go for it.<\/p>\n

“People get surprised at how fun it really can be and are very proud of what they can produce.<\/p>\n

“We are starting to see generations of families through. Those who did it when they were kids, are now bringing their own, which is really cool.<\/p>\n

“Bring a picnic and something to light your creation and stay for the fun.”<\/p>\n

Ms Messner said this year’s event would be her last in charge, with the hope someone else could keep the flame alight moving forward.<\/p>\n
