Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre is set to engage the community in an immersive celebration of music, art and culture when Narana Unplugged returns this weekend. Narana Unplugged II is headlined by rising star, Yirrmal, backing up his performance at NaranaFest in November, with his debut EP imminent, and supported by Josh Seymour and Jayden Lillyst, who will perform solo.
\nLocal talent hasn\u2019t been overlooked with bluesman Alister Turrill, Olly Friend, Narana\u2019s own Deadly Duo and didgeridoo player Lyndon Arthur Perry.
\nThe event will also launch Narana\u2019s yearlong Songlines celebration, which coincides with NAIDOC Week and shares Narana\u2019s ethos of \u201cListening and Learning\u201d across multiple events.
\nFor Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the Dreamtime, The Jukurrpa or as it sometimes translated, the \u2018Dreaming\u2019 describes a time when the earth, people, plants and animals were created by ancestral spiritual beings.
\nDreaming tracks crisscross Australia and trace the journeys of ancestral spirits as they created the land, animals and Lores.
\nThese Songlines are recorded in traditional songs, stories, dance and art and carry significant spiritual and cultural connection to knowledge, customs, ceremony and lore of many Aboriginal nations and Torres Strait Islander language groups.
\nAs well as the musical performances and Songlines celebrations, guests will enjoy a delicious menu served up by Cafe Narana.
\nThe crowd-pleasing festival-inspired menu features Narana\u2019s famous kangaroo sliders, tacos, souvlakis, fish and chips, corn on the cob and Seven Seeds coffee.
\nNarana Unplugged II is on Saturday April 9 from noon-6pm at Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre, 410 Surf Coast Hwy, Grovedale and is an all ages, alcohol-free event.
\nTickets will be available from Narana\u2019s retail shop on the day for $20, and children under 12 enter free.
\nVisitors are encouraged to pack a picnic rug and some camp chairs and immerse themselves in the Narana experience.
