TORQUAY Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) is celebrating and inspiring future generations of female surf sports athletes by holding a special “Girl Power” extravaganza next weekend.<\/p>\n

The February 18 event will feature a pink patrol and a hydrothon all female surf clinic spearheaded by Nutri Grain series champion Jordan Mercer and 2022 Coolangatta gold champion Carla Papac.<\/p>\n

Both events will aim to use positive role modelling to empower women and girls to confidently pursue opportunities in lifesaving and aquatics.<\/p>\n

Torquay SLSC marketing director Damien Chappell said anyone and everyone was welcome to stop by for the celebrations.<\/p>\n

“We’re super happy to be celebrating all things female in surf sports and surf life saving with a pink patrol and the hydrothon all female surf sport clinic,” he said.<\/p>\n

“While we already have an amazing 45 per cent female membership at Torquay SLSC, we think it’s important to recognise and reinforce the commitment and contributions made by our female members, and wherever possible, to promote more female participation at all levels of surf sports and lifesaving.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nutri Grain series champion Jordan Mercer said the session would hopefully inspire athletes to join surf sports.<\/p>\n

“I’m very much looking forward to heading to Torquay and being part of this great movement.<\/p>\n

“Hopefully sharing our experiences with the girls inspires them to stay involved in our great sport and encourages them to dream big.”<\/p>\n

The hydrothon has been made possible with support from a grant from the Victorian government’s Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Jobs and the Change Our Game Grant, approved by Minister for Sport Ros Spence<\/p>\n

All skills levels will be supported at the session.<\/p>\n
