{"id":127483,"date":"2024-02-14T04:00:44","date_gmt":"2024-02-13T17:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=127483"},"modified":"2024-02-08T09:34:42","modified_gmt":"2024-02-07T22:34:42","slug":"tornadoes-headed-to-stand-out-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/tornadoes-headed-to-stand-out-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"Tornadoes headed to Stand Out Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Torquay Tornadoes are looking for players to enter the Stand Out Cup hockey tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The Stand Out Cup is a Hockey Victoria initiative, based around standing out against homophobia and transphobia within the hockey community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Torquay Hockey Club is really excited to be entering seniors and a junior team into the Stand Out Cup for the first time,&#8221; Torquay Hockey Club president Sarah Storen said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Stand Out Cup provides a great opportunity for Torquay Hockey Club to celebrate diversity and inclusivity in the hockey community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The cup aims to create a positive change around attitudes within the sport and ensure that all LGBTIQ+ people feel comfortable.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Diversity and inclusion are important values for the Torquay Hockey Club and as a club we strive to ensure that LGBTIQ+ people feel welcome,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The annual celebration is this year adding a junior grade to the draw for the first time, designed for children 14 or younger.<\/p>\n<p>The club is welcoming all players to join them for the day, with no prior hockey experience necessary.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have friendly and experienced players who will support the team and new players to the sport,&#8221; Ms Storen said.<\/p>\n<p>The Torquay Hockey Club has several rounds in the 2024 season to celebrate their diverse culture, including a pride round, women and girls round and an Indigenous round.<\/p>\n<p>The one-day tournament is being held at the Footscray Hockey Club on February 25 from 9am.<\/p>\n<p>The club are also looking for junior and senior players for teams in their upcoming season.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested in playing in the Stand Out Cup or the coming season, email info@torquayhockeyclub.com.au<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Torquay Tornadoes are looking for players to enter the Stand Out Cup hockey tournament.
