THE Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority has appointed NMBW Architecture Studio as the principal design consultant for the $12.59 million Point Grey Lorne redevelopment.<\/p>\n
The redevelopment will include new Lorne Aquatic & Angling Club facilities and upgraded walking paths.<\/p>\n
The authority’s website states “casual hospitality offerings, including options for coffee, takeaway and alfresco seating” will be included.<\/p>\n
Chief executive officer Jodie Sizer said the project had reached a new milestone.<\/p>\n
“Point Grey is a place of great significance for the local community and visitors alike, and the appointment of NMBW Architecture Studio, under our leadership, marks a pivotal moment for this transformative initiative.”<\/p>\n
Following a Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) determination in 2022, which rejected a 160-person restaurant at the site, a revised Precinct Masterplan is now required.<\/p>\n
This will involve an analysis of carrying capacity, environmental values, public safety, local coastal adaptation planning processes, and compliance with relevant legislation and policies.<\/p>\n
As part of this work, the studio will outline the vision, design elements, and functionality of the precinct.<\/p>\n
This project is part of the Geelong City Deal, a collaborative infrastructure initiative undertaken by the federal government, the Victorian government, local councils, the authority, and key partners.<\/p>\n
The Geelong City Deal is providing $10.14 million, the authority is contributing $2 million, and the Lorne Aquatic and Angling Club is providing $450,000, bringing the total project budget to $12.59 million.<\/p>\n
The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority has taken on delivery of three Geelong City Deal funded projects along the Great Ocean Road.<\/p>\n
