{"id":128461,"date":"2024-02-26T04:00:21","date_gmt":"2024-02-25T17:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=128461"},"modified":"2024-02-21T14:48:39","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T03:48:39","slug":"torquay-surf-coach-up-for-national-honour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/torquay-surf-coach-up-for-national-honour\/","title":{"rendered":"Torquay surf coach up for national honour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A TORQUAY surf coach has been named as a finalist for the 2023 Australian Surfing Awards in recognition of his dedication to the sport.<\/p>\n<p>Surfing Victoria high performance coaching director Cahill Bell-Warren has been shortlisted as one of three finalists for the Coach of the Year Award.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bell-Warren has been the head coach of Surfing Victoria and their surf coaching network Surf Better Now for eight years.<\/p>\n<p>The Torquay local works with a range of surfers, from those aged eight to 10 doing their first turns all the way to the world\u2019s elite such as 2023 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach Ethan Ewing and world tour competitor Isabella Nichols.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bell-Warren said it was a huge honour to be recognised among the country\u2019s elite coaches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a nice feeling, for sure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, I\u2019m not standing on the beach in the rain thinking &#8216;I could win an award for this&#8217;; it\u2019s the last thing on my mind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not going to change what I do or who I am, but it\u2019s great recognition for effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bell-Warren said forming connections with great people was his favourite aspect of his career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s so amazing seeing the growth in our surfers from early teenagers to into their 20s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s nice seeing people win world events, but its more about the quality of people who come through the program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou get these amazing connections, and you get to go on a surfing journey with them.
