NORMAN Stanley Browning, a beloved member of the Torquay community, will be remembered tomorrow (Friday, February 23) in a memorial service at the Torquay Football Netball Club.<\/p>\n
Norm passed away suddenly on Thursday last week at the age of 76.<\/p>\n
He is survived by his wife, Sandra, and children, Nigel and Lainie.<\/p>\n
Norm moved to Torquay in 1964 at the age of 17 with his family.<\/p>\n
He quickly joined the Torquay Football Club, eventually becoming a club committee member.<\/p>\n
During his time on the committee, he was instrumental in making the organisation a sporting club, bringing together its previously separated football and cricket factions.<\/p>\n
His wife, Sandra, also played an integral role, helping with the club’s weekly Thursday night dinners.<\/p>\n
This influence flowed through to Nigel and Lainie who played football and netball with the club, respectively.<\/p>\n
Initially a bricklayer by trade, Norm owned a menswear store in Torquay from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s.<\/p>\n
The memorial service will be held at the Torquay Football Netball Club \u2013 McCartney Oval \u2013 at 1A Geelong Road, Torquay today at 2pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
