THE beach stretch from Bird Rock to Steps in Jan Juc is under temporary closure after giant cracks were discovered by a paraglider on the cliff top.<\/p>\n

Paraglider Bobby Matharu noticed the cracks while flying over the cliffs.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooks like this bits about to fall off,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust a concern if someone walking on the beach.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been paragliding over these cliffs for a while but haven\u2019t noticed these big cracks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Matharu posted photos of the giant fissures on social media which prompted the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority to send a geotechnician to evaluate the site.<\/p>\n

The Authority then issued a statement declaring the adjacent Surf Coast Walk (Bells Track) will stay open for now.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn line with our Trigger Action Response Plan for cliffs The Surf Coast Walk (Bells Track) remains open as the crack is more than 5m from the path,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday the Authority conducted a site inspection and concluded an independent assessment was required.<\/p>\n

\u201cGeotechnical experts are re-assessing the site to assess safety controls and next steps.”<\/p>\n

The Authority has asked the community follow signage to share alert with others.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also remind beachgoers that the beach at Demons Bluff Anglesea remains closed due to cliff safety risks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Independent geotechnical reports have previously predicted<\/a> a 1.5-meter cliff line recession in the next two decades along the Jan Juc to Torquay Cliff Top Trail.<\/p>\n
