{"id":129039,"date":"2024-03-01T04:00:34","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T17:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=129039"},"modified":"2024-02-29T09:47:23","modified_gmt":"2024-02-28T22:47:23","slug":"bowls-club-celebrates-100-year-milestone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/bowls-club-celebrates-100-year-milestone\/","title":{"rendered":"Bowls club celebrates 100-year milestone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HUNDREDS of community members gathered at Torquay Bowls Club for its centennial celebration on the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Torquay Bowls Club president Joe Issell said the celebration was the perfect way to honour 100 years of work from past and present club members and supporters.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was magnificent to see the community support on the day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Seeing so many young families, that was what was so pleasing. It&#8217;s a sign that this is a family place and something we pride ourselves on being here at the Torquay Bowls Club.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was one of the busiest days at the club that I can recall. It felt like the entire community turned up for what was a very special milestone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The event hosted a range of children&#8217;s activities ranging from a wildlife expert to face painting, as well as a community barbecue, barefoot bowls, music and speeches from key committee members.<\/p>\n<p>The guest list included Surf Coast mayor Liz Pattison, member of Polwarth Richard Riordan, Corangamite federal member Libby Coker, and regional and state bowls representatives.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The 100-year celebration was really about the people who were involved, and it all comes back to the community. It&#8217;s a real community hub today and we hope to remain one for the next 100 years,&#8221; Mr Issell said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;100 years in the same spot in Taylor Park is also a pretty bloody good effort as well, but again, that&#8217;s a testament to the people who are and have been a part of the club.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For more information on future events at the Torquay Bowls Club, click <a
