{"id":129654,"date":"2024-03-07T10:15:25","date_gmt":"2024-03-06T23:15:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=129654"},"modified":"2024-07-29T14:48:47","modified_gmt":"2024-07-29T04:48:47","slug":"feedback-sought-on-circular-economy-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/feedback-sought-on-circular-economy-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Feedback sought on circular economy plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Surf Coast Shire is seeking community feedback on their Circular Economy Action draft plan.<\/p>\n<p>A circular economy is intended to keep valuable resources in use and out of landfill for as long as possible by reusing, repairing, sharing, and recycling.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A circular economy will help us manage materials responsibly, where possible reusing rather than simply consuming, while still enabling sustainable economic growth,&#8221; Cr Mike Bodsworth said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone has a role to play, from the broader community through to industry, businesses, research and education facilities, and all tiers of government.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The plan has five priority areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Avoiding waste and increasing resource recovery<\/li>\n<li>Maximising reuse<\/li>\n<li>Innovation and collaboration<\/li>\n<li>Creating systems change, and<\/li>\n<li>Advocacy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The three-year plan outlines 25 actions within these priority areas. These actions include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The development and delivery of targeted community education and behaviour change programs to drive waste avoidance, increased resource recovery, and smarter consumption including buying recycled and sharing.<\/li>\n<li>The shire opting for use of products and materials with recycled content for projects, asset renewal and maintenance, with priorities including steel, bitumen, concrete, timber and bollards, and<\/li>\n<li>Development of a plan for Anglesea landfill following its expected closure in 2027.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_129667\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-129667\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-129667 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/AngleseaTransferStat_67778_tn.jpg?_t=1709766634\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/AngleseaTransferStat_67778_tn.jpg 605w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/AngleseaTransferStat_67778_tn-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/AngleseaTransferStat_67778_tn-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-129667\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Under the new Circular Economy Action Plan, the shire will develop a plan for the Anglesea landfill following its expected closure in 2027.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Reducing household, food and garden waste going to landfill will also be a community target.<\/p>\n<p>Cr Bodsworth said there were some great circular economy initiatives already in the community and developing this action plan will enable greater focus and guidance on priority areas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While there are already many examples of positive steps being taken in our community towards a circular economy, by developing this action plan, we will enable greater focus and guidance on priority areas to work towards a low-waste future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The community engagement process with take place over eight weeks across March and April, and in-person engagement sessions will also run during this time.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, and to provide feedback, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/yoursay.surfcoast.vic.gov.au\">yoursay.surfcoast.vic.gov.au<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Surf Coast Shire is seeking community feedback on their Circular Economy Action draft plan.
