	{"id":129866,"date":"2024-03-04T16:17:17","date_gmt":"2024-03-04T05:17:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/upgrades-begin-at-apollo-bay-port\/"},"modified":"2024-03-08T16:27:52","modified_gmt":"2024-03-08T05:27:52","slug":"upgrades-begin-at-apollo-bay-port","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/upgrades-begin-at-apollo-bay-port\/","title":{"rendered":"Upgrades begin at Apollo Bay Port"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WORK has started on essential upgrades at the Port of Apollo Bay, with a focus on repairing the breakwater wall and replacing the sheet pile wall at the jetty&#8217;s end.<\/p>\n<p>Colac Otway Shire mayor Marg White announced the $2.8 million project, emphasising its significance for Apollo Bay and the Great Ocean Road region.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Council was determined to see the project delivered to remediate the Port&#8217;s infrastructure and ensure it continues to provide safe haven for the many port users, and remain an attraction for locals and tourists alike,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is pleasing to see the works commence and we appreciate the significant support from the state government to make this happen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our staff are overseeing the project and users and visitors can expect some disruptions, but the port will remain open throughout the works.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite some expected disruptions, the port will stay open throughout the project period, with the shire overseeing the work.<\/p>\n<p>The Victorian government initiated the $2.8 million works to safeguard the harbour and improve safety.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne outlined the project&#8217;s scope, which includes repairing more than 70m of the Lee Breakwater and constructing a new sheet pile wall to shield the harbor from rough sea conditions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Apollo Bay is one of the most recognisable spots along Victoria&#8217;s south-west coast and improving its safety will ensure the area remains a vibrant economic and tourist precinct,&#8221; Ms Horne said.<\/p>\n<p>Additional enhancements include widening the jetty and installing public lighting, aiming for completion by spring 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Great Ocean Coast and Parks Authority also announced it was calling for expressions of interest to join a Community Reference Group (CRG) for the Apollo Bay Harbour Redevelopment.<\/p>\n<p>The EOI for the new CRG follows the completion of an independent review of the Apollo Bay Harbour Development Plan 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The authority will now appoint a head consultant to lead the next phase of planning and design, with the ideal appointee an industry expert that will bring experience in urban design, landscape architecture, and architectural services.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8221;As we embark on the next phase of the Apollo Bay Harbour Redevelopment with all stakeholders and community our focus is clear; to transform the harbour into a thriving precinct for all,&#8221; authority chief executive officer Jodie Sizer said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We look forward to working collaboratively with the Apollo Bay Fishermen&#8217;s Co-Operative, Council, locals and the new Community Reference Group, to deliver an outstanding outcome that we can all be proud of.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The EOI for the new CRG will open on March 26 online at haveyoursay.greatoceanroadauthority.vic.gov.au\/AB-harbour<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WORK has started on essential upgrades at the Port of Apollo Bay, with a focus on repairing the breakwater wall and replacing the sheet pile wall at the jetty&#8217;s end.
