A BASKETBALL extravaganza is about to hit the Surf Coast with four games of Big V action lined up at Wurdi Baierr Stadium this Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Surfcoast Chargers get their Big V season underway in 48 hours with all four of the club’s senior teams putting their pre-season preparations into practice.<\/p>\n

As part of the game day proceedings, Surfcoast’s Youth League Women side will make its first ever appearance, after the Chargers added the side to its senior program following the 2023 season.<\/p>\n

Youth League Women’s player Sienna McCumber said Saturday will be a great opportunity for the community to throw its support behind its basketball club.<\/p>\n

“I hope to see as much of the community out here, it’s going to be a really great atmosphere,” McCumber said.”Seeing friends and family here on the day will be pretty cool, it’s all part of what makes the community great.<\/p>\n

“There’s already a heap of support surrounding the juniors, which I have been lucky enough to experience, and now with the introduction of a Youth League Women’s side, a lot of our developing players have something to aspire to ensuring a full pathway here at the Chargers.”<\/p>\n

The Youth League Women, led by inaugural head coach Craig Jarvis, begin the action at 1.30pm against Sunbury, before their male counterparts clash with regional rivals Bellarine at 3.30pm.<\/p>\n

The Division One Women play Collingwood at 5.30pm before the day’s concluding game between the Division 2 Men and Collingwood takes place at 7.30pm.<\/p>\n

Senior men’s player Harry Moran said he and team are extremely lucky to be a part of the club’s season launch as they aim to get their season off on the right foot.<\/p>\n

“It’s my first season here at the Chargers, it’s just a good atmosphere to be around.<\/p>\n

“We’re eager to show off what we’ve been working on, it’s just great to be amongst it as well for what will be a great day overall.<\/p>\n

“We’re a team that can really push the floor, play really hard and tough defence, and it’s going to be hard-fought game against Bellarine \u2013 we’ll need to be switched on straight from the jump.”<\/p>\n
