{"id":130050,"date":"2024-03-14T09:29:22","date_gmt":"2024-03-13T22:29:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=130050"},"modified":"2024-03-14T09:30:47","modified_gmt":"2024-03-13T22:30:47","slug":"bwcc-chair-responds-to-grand-final-cancellations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/bwcc-chair-responds-to-grand-final-cancellations\/","title":{"rendered":"BWCC chair responds to Grand Final cancellations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Barwon Women\u2019s Cricket Competition (BWCC) looked at alternative options prior to <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/bwcc-grand-finals-cancelled-due-to-extreme-heat\/\">abandoning it\u2019s A and B Grade Grand Final day<\/a>, the competition\u2019s chair has stated.<\/p>\n<p>BWCC chair Lisa Armstrong-Rowe said Sunday\u2019s decision to award the competition\u2019s A Grade and B Grade premierships based on ladder position rather than a Grand Final winner was a disappointing one, after extreme heat forced the abandonment of the season\u2019s final day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019re all disappointed for all the work the clubs, players and officials have put in over the season,\u201d Ms Armstrong-Rowe said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s always much sweeter to win a premiership after winning the Grand Final, and both teams from both games were real keen to get that to happen, but our policy is in place for the safety of the players with regards to heat \u2013 that\u2019s always our top priority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also had juniors playing Grand Finals that morning who were also going to front up in the afternoon as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Armstrong-Rowe said her team had looked into the possibility of moving Sunday\u2019s times but was not viable \u2013 most significantly the lack of lighting available later in the day.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to abandon the A Grade and B Grade Grand Finals meant North Geelong was awarded the premiership of the former over St Joseph\u2019s, while Barrabool was awarded the latter premiership over Geelong City because of ladder position.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the disappointing finish, Ms Armstrong-Rowe said the 2023\/24 BWCC season was a successful campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just continues to grow and grow every year, we have more teams than ever before and we continue to welcome new clubs to our fold and our current teams expanding the amount of female sides in the BWCC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re seeing our A Grade and B Grade competitions are probably a bit more competitive than our lower grades, which are still nine-a-side, we\u2019ll start to increase more longer form grades in our higher grades moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe challenge of managing the growth and continuing the sustainability of the BWCC will continue for us and we\u2019re excited for next season to come around.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Barwon Women\u2019s Cricket Competition (BWCC) looked at alternative options prior to abandoning it\u2019s A and B Grade Grand Final day, the competition\u2019s chair has stated.
