{"id":130576,"date":"2024-03-25T04:32:40","date_gmt":"2024-03-24T17:32:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=130576"},"modified":"2024-03-21T14:35:56","modified_gmt":"2024-03-21T03:35:56","slug":"feedback-sought-on-charlemont-hub-design","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/news\/feedback-sought-on-charlemont-hub-design\/","title":{"rendered":"Feedback sought on Charlemont hub design"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE next phase of community consultation has opened for the proposed Horseshoe Bend Community Hub in Charlemont.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Greater Geelong has developed a draft concept plan based on ideas shared by the community last year, and has released it for feedback.<\/p>\n<p>With the Charlemont-Marshall population is expected to nearly triple from 6,410 residents now to nearly 18,000 residents by 2041, the growing area is in need of a functional and friendly facility for residents to get access to important services, socialise and participate in programs and events.<\/p>\n<p>To be situated at the corner of Amber Avenue and Precinct Road, the proposed hub will feature:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Various multipurpose community spaces, connecting to a large outdoor space for events and activities<\/li>\n<li>A north-facing kindergarten, outdoor space and parent waiting area<\/li>\n<li>Consult suites for maternal and child health, allied health and supporting services<\/li>\n<li>A large outdoor area, and<\/li>\n<li>Space for a future community garden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The city will also hold in-person engagement sessions at Charlemont&#8217;s Glenlee Regional Park from 9am-11am tomorrow (Saturday, March 23) and on April 13 from 12 noon-2pm.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_130577\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-130577\" style=\"width: 588px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-130577 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/Charlemonthubsite_61275.jpg?_t=1710992104\" alt=\"\" width=\"588\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/Charlemonthubsite_61275.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/Charlemonthubsite_61275-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/Charlemonthubsite_61275-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 588px) 100vw, 588px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-130577\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The hub will be buillt on this site at the corner of Amber Avenue and Precinct Road. Photo: CITY OF GREATER GEELONG<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said it was vital to have the input of residents who will eventually use the facility.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Charlemont is growing each year, so it&#8217;s important for the new community to have access to local early years services and multipurpose community spaces.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By providing feedback, the Horseshoe Bend Community Hub will be built for the community and shaped by the community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cr Bruce Harwood said the draft concept plan takes into account previous feedback from residents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The community told us that encouraging opportunities for social interaction outdoors, spaces to support activities for youth and older adults, and retaining trees for shade were important,&#8221; Cr Harwood said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The plan also considers how we can celebrate the environment, make the facility warm, welcoming and safe, and easy to reach and to navigate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Community members are encouraged to view the draft concept plan and give feedback online before April 14 at <a href=\"http:\/\/yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au\/HorseshoeBendHub\">yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au\/HorseshoeBendHub<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE next phase of community consultation has opened for the proposed Horseshoe Bend Community Hub in Charlemont.
