LIFEBLOOD’S mobile blood donor bus will return to Torquay next month, encouraged by the high turnout for life-saving donations last January.<\/p>\n
A visit earlier this year was the first in over a decade and quickly saw all appointments booked, with 180 locals, including 49 first-time donors, participating and potentially saving up to 540 lives.<\/p>\n
Lifeblood spokesperson Stephanie Reynolds expressed gratitude for Torquay’s warm reception and the community’s eagerness to support patients in need.<\/p>\n
“There is clearly a strong desire from the people of Torquay and surrounds to do something good to help patients in need,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Every donation was truly appreciated and helped to maintain the nation’s blood supply at a traditionally challenging time over the summer holiday period when regular donors often take a break.<\/p>\n
“I thank everyone who took the time to donate. We are so excited to be coming back in April and hope to see you all again.”<\/p>\n
Recognising Torquay’s growing population and willingness to donate, Lifeblood plans more frequent visits to make donating more accessible\u00a0for locals.<\/p>\n
“We want to make blood donation convenient for Torquay locals. Not only will we be back in April, but we will also be looking to plan regular visits in the future,” Ms Reynolds said.<\/p>\n
Blood and blood products are essential for various medical treatments, including cancer therapy, emergency surgeries, and childbirth.<\/p>\n
The Torquay Mobile Donor Centre will be located at Bunnings Warehouse carpark, 1 Beacon Blvd, Torquay from April 15 to April 20.<\/p>\n
