TORQUAY will play host to its first vinyl fair this weekend.<\/p>\n

The market will take place tomorrow on Easter Saturday (March 30), at the Torquay Improvement Association.<\/p>\n

Organiser and Jan Juc local Dave Morony said there will be about 8,000 new and preloved records available for purchase.<\/p>\n

The fair will feature several local sellers, as well as those from further afield, with genres spanning everything from jazz and soul to progressive rock and traditional pop.<\/p>\n

A range of disco, dance, hip hop and techno albums will also be on offer.<\/p>\n

“I’ve tried to pick different sellers who have got different genres of music, so not everyone’s got the same thing,” Morony said.<\/p>\n

“Hopefully we’ve got a really wide spread of music to really cater to the type of sound people are looking for, or their niche.”<\/p>\n

Products from two local cabinetmakers \u2013 Julian Beattie from Makestuff and Jarrod from Gorman Furniture \u2013 will also be on display.<\/p>\n

Morony describes himself as a “person passionate about the environment\u2026 and where we live”.<\/p>\n

For him, the thinking behind the fair is “quite simple” and he hopes the event could become an annual offering.<\/p>\n

“I feel like there is a strong sense of community down here around music, but we’re a little bit spread out, so it might be a nice thing for the whole Surf Coast to get around and do,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Vinyl’s having a real resurgence.<\/p>\n

“I’m just trying to see who’s out there in the community that buys records, enjoys records, because you tend to have a different affiliation with music because you’re willing to invest in high-fidelity sound.”<\/p>\n

Morony said he’s not looking to make money from the event, instead donating the gross profits to a local Wadawurrung family in need.<\/p>\n

While entry to the fair is free, there will be an opportunity at the door for community members to donate to the family.<\/p>\n

The market will run at the Torquay Improvement Association, 12 Price Street, Torquay from 10am to 3pm.<\/p>\n
