THE Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority is set to start pre-staging works at the Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve.<\/p>\n
The project is a key development under the broader Tourism Infrastructure Program funded by the Victorian Government’s $465 million Victorian Tourism Recovery Package.<\/p>\n
The initiative aims to enhance the reserve’s camping facilities and introduce all-abilities amenities, significantly improving accessibility and inclusivity for visitors.<\/p>\n
After an extensive master planning process throughout 2022-2023, the Authority’s Board has given its full support to the 10-year masterplan.<\/p>\n
Authority chief executive officer Jodie Sizer said the works would make the area more accessible and inclusive.<\/p>\n
“The start of project delivery at the Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve is an important step towards our mission to create more accessible and inclusive holiday experiences along the Great Ocean Road.<\/p>\n
“Through the Camping Uplift initiative, our commitment is clear: to ensure that our parks and camping reserves become spaces that are fit-for-purpose, easier to use and more enjoyable for all.”<\/p>\n
The upgrade, which includes the introduction of new accessible accommodation options, including glamping as well as improvements to campsite facilities, is part of a phased approach to revitalise the reserve.<\/p>\n
The reserve campground will close on April 17 for about five months to prepare for the construction of the Stage 1 Northern Accommodation Precinct.<\/p>\n
Despite the campground’s closure, the reserve will continue to host recreational and sporting club activities without interruption.<\/p>\n
Campers are encouraged to consider alternative sites at Marengo Family Caravan Park and Skenes Creek Foreshore Caravan Park during this period.<\/p>\n
Brand Architects has been selected to lead the detailed design of the Northern Accommodation Precinct.<\/p>\n
