OUTSTANDING NAPLAN RESULTS
\n Recently released comparative results have shown that Lorne Aireys Inlet P-12 College Naplan scores were amongst the highest in the Geelong region.
\nIn Year 9 reading, our college was the highest performer ahead of Kardinia and Geelong Grammar.
\nIn Year 9 numeracy we were fourth highest behind Kardinia, Geelong College and Geelong Grammar.
\nIn Year 5 numeracy we were third highest behind Geelong Grammar and Tate Street Primary.
\nThese outstanding results reflect the high quality education our students receive and congratulations must go to our students and staff for these wonderful outcomes.
\nYEAR 7 INFORMATION NIGHT
\nThe College\u2019s Year 7 information night will be held on Tuesday April 19th commencing at 6.30pm in the Innovative Learning Space at the Lorne Campus. This is a most important night for all parents\/carers of Year 6 students and of course anyone is welcome to attend. Information will be presented on the Year 7 courses for 2017, handbooks will be available, there will be a tour of the campus, and performances by the school bands. <\/p>\n
SCULPTURE BIENNALE
\nPrimary students at both campuses have worked with artist-in-residence Peter Day to prepare a sculpture for the Lorne Sculpture Biennale using materials found on the beach and recycled. This was in place near the main information centre for the exhibition for the weekend of Saturday March 19th and Sunday March 20th. <\/p>\n
MAINTENANCE WORKS AT LORNE
\nWe are very excited that there will be some significant maintenance works happening at the Lorne campus over the next few weeks. The works will include interior and exterior renovations of the P-2 and arts block, and internal reconfigurations of the woodwork room.
\nThese improvements will add significantly to the aesthetic appearance of the P-2 wing with replacement of the decking and new internal colours major features of the maintenance. BULLY STOPPERS PROGRAM As part of our Bully Stoppers grant, Leigh Burns, Alphatoons, visited the Aireys Campus on Thursday 10th March (Yrs F-6) and the Lorne Campus on Wednesday March 16 (Yrs F-8). He ran a workshop for each class. He shared his own drawings and demonstrated how you can display emotions in cartoons starting with the face. Leigh took the students through a step by step process of drawing different characters. Some children did so well they moved onto drawing the whole of the character. Many children were so inspired they went home and drew some of their own characters. <\/p>\n
BALANCE TRANSIENCE; PERFORMANCE FROM REGIONAL ARTS VICTORIA
\nLast week students across Years F \u2013 6 from the Lorne Campus were treated to a performance by actors Dave Jones and Jacob Williams from Transience with a theme of sustainability. Students were captivated by the one-man performance that developed the theme of clean energy and involved students in an interactive demonstration of wind, solar and other energy sources.
\nThe performance was offered free of charge to the College as a show of support for the region in the wake of the recent bushfires.
