THE Surf Coast Shire has honoured Sue Saw, a devoted educator and volunteer, with its latest Local Legend award, recognising her enduring impact on generations of children in Anglesea.<\/p>\n
For decades, Sue Saw has been a familiar face at Anglesea Primary School and Anglesea Kindergarten, where she has taught and volunteered, fostering the growth and development of young minds.<\/p>\n
Even in retirement, she continues to volunteer, contributing to the learning and well-being of the children.<\/p>\n
Anglesea Kindergarten lead teacher Sarah Womersley nominated Sue.<\/p>\n
“Sue helps the children with learning activities, from craft to puzzles and making playdough. She fosters an inclusive environment as well as encouraging children to develop confidence and resilience,” she said.<\/p>\n
Sue’s commitment to education began with her appointment at Anglesea Primary School in 1976, marking the start of a lifelong passion for contributing to the community.<\/p>\n
Her involvement intensified when her own children attended the local kindergarten, leading her to a teaching position there in 1994, which she held until her retirement in 2007.<\/p>\n
Despite retiring, Sue felt compelled to continue her educational work.<\/p>\n
“I found that I really missed working in the field, and I had more to contribute so I offered my services as a volunteer to both the kindergarten and the school and that’s what I’ve been doing,” she said.<\/p>\n
“And I’m not quite over the hill yet! I love what I do, it’s keeping me on my toes, keeping me engaged and feeling as if I’m a worthwhile part of the community.”<\/p>\n
The recognition as a Local Legend came as a surprise to Sue, who has deep roots in the community as a mother of four and grandmother of 11.<\/p>\n
“I feel very humble and grateful, I was quite taken aback,” Sue said. “It is wonderful and gives me a lot of pleasure.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
