IMPROVED signage in Torquay is getting closer as stage one of the Surf Coast Shires Wayfinding Signage strategy has now been completed.<\/p>\n
The Surf Coast Shire council has endorsed the final Torquay Wayfinding Sign Strategy and Design Guidelines, helping create a more connected town.<\/p>\n
The new signage will highlight routes between destinations including businesses, parks and beaches as well as aiming to encourage active movement from residents and tourists, making it easier for them get around.<\/p>\n
Cr Rose Hodge said the new signage would provide a better experience for the community and visitors.<\/p>\n
“The new signage system will make it easier for all ages and abilities to understand and make it easier for people to get around without relying on cars,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Accessibility is also a major factor, so the signs are clear and easy to follow, working in with existing signage.”<\/p>\n
Funded by the shire and the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, the project has a budget of $370,000.<\/p>\n
Stage two of the strategy is now under way and will include the manufacturing and installation of signage throughout the precinct.<\/p>\n
Community feedback was sought on the draft strategy and guidelines in July 2023, with feedback taken into consideration to form the final strategy, including a desire for less signage clutter.<\/p>\n
“These guidelines help implement an efficient system and the management of signs going forward,” Cr Hodge said.<\/p>\n
“It will also be a fantastic resource that can be tailed to other Surf Coast Shire townships in the future.”<\/p>\n
As part of the process, old signage that is no longer being used will be taken down.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
