{"id":134555,"date":"2024-05-10T01:49:07","date_gmt":"2024-05-09T15:49:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=134555"},"modified":"2024-05-09T15:52:59","modified_gmt":"2024-05-09T05:52:59","slug":"environmental-film-festival-returns-after-decade-long-hiatus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/living\/environmental-film-festival-returns-after-decade-long-hiatus\/","title":{"rendered":"Environmental Film Festival returns after decade-long hiatus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOR the first time in 10 years, the Surf Coast Energy Group&#8217;s (SCEG) environmental film series has returned with their first screening taking place on Tuesday last week.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees gathered at the Anglesea Memorial Hall for the first film, where they learnt how to support<\/p>\n<p>sustainable local food growers with a screening of The Seeds of Vandana Shiva.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/ASimplerWay_55837.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p>SCEG first ran the film series between 2008 and 2014 where they inspired local action, starting a plastic bag-free initiative in Torquay following a film on the issue of plastics in the ocean in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After each film we will invite guest speakers to contribute ideas and will present the audience with positive actions that they can take<\/p>\n<p>to make a difference,&#8221; series creative director Perry Mills said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whether that&#8217;s something big like installing solar panels on the house, or something small but powerful like writing to a politician.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The recent screening included a discussion panel representing Torquay Farmers Market, The Common Ground Project, Kinsfolk Farm and Farm My School.<\/p>\n<p>Coming up next is a screening of A Simpler Way: Crisis as Opportunity, to be held on June 11 with a panel discussion to follow.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/LivingtheChange_66007.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s expected the films will demonstrate, inspire, connect and support those passionate about making the environment around them more sustainable.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The films and themes we are presenting have inspiring stories for a sustainable future,&#8221; Mr Mills said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s important to recognise that there is a lot that we can do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>All films will be shown at the Anglesea Memorial Hall with the last screening on\u00a0October 8.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, including the full program and tickets, head to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sceg.org.au\/film-nights\">sceg.org.au\/film-nights<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>\/\/SPONSORED CONTENT<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FOR the first time in 10 years, the Surf Coast Energy Group&#8217;s (SCEG) environmental film series has returned with their first screening taking place on Tuesday last week.
