THE Twelve Apostles Precinct Redevelopment is moving into the construction phase, with the search for a builder to create the highly anticipated Visitor Experience Centre now underway.<\/p>\n
The tender for shortlisted candidates to submit their proposals to build the world-class centre will open in early June.<\/p>\n
Federal Member for Corangamite Libby Coker highlighted the economic benefits of the project.<\/p>\n
“The Visitor Experience Centre will encourage people to stay longer and explore more of the region, which is expected to generate hundreds of millions of dollars each year for our local economy.<\/p>\n
“The project will help stimulate local businesses and communities all along the Shipwreck Coast, while supporting local jobs during construction and once the site is operational.”<\/p>\n
Development Victoria recently concluded a three-month local engagement process, involving 270 residents, to ensure community input shapes the final project.<\/p>\n
Locals strongly supported the need for the Visitor Centre to complement the unique natural environment of the area.<\/p>\n
Feedback from community members highlighted the importance of further consultation before any future development on this culturally significant site.<\/p>\n
Following community engagement, the project will also include upgrades to parking spaces and pedestrian access to the Visitor Centre, improving safety and accessibility for all visitors. This upgrade is supported by an additional $18 million from the Victorian Labor Government.<\/p>\n
Victorian Minister for Regional Development Gayle Tierney said the community was the most important stakeholder.<\/p>\n
“The community has told us how they want the Visitor Experience Centre to look and feel, and we have listened,” Tierney said.<\/p>\n
“We’re supporting development that is sustainable with as little impact on the precious natural coastline as possible.”<\/p>\n
As part of the engagement process, Development Victoria sought input from the Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation, resulting in the inclusion of a new Welcome Garden that will celebrate the rich bio-cultural heritage of the Eastern Maar community, while a garden rooftop lookout will offer breathtaking views over the ocean.<\/p>\n
In addition to the Visitor Experience Centre, the Victorian Government is investing $24.5 million in other projects in the area.<\/p>\n
These include a new lookout at the ‘Saddle’ in the Twelve Apostles Precinct, a pedestrian bridge over Port Campbell Creek to connect people to the national park, and a lookout at ‘The Blowhole’ at Loch Ard Gorge, which is currently under construction.<\/p>\n
The Twelve Apostles Visitor Experience Centre is part of the Geelong City Deal, a partnership between all three levels of government aimed at revitalising the city and regional economy while encouraging people to spend more time in the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
