A FILM screening event in Aireys Inlet is raising funds for remote surf communities across in Indonesia as part of a film tour across the country.<\/p>\n

Surf documentary The Ugly Duckling, created by Torren Martyn and Kelly Foote anf featuring shaper Simon Jones, will be screened at Aireys Pub on Wednesday, May 29, with residents encouraged to join for the 7pm start time.<\/p>\n

Event organiser Jack Perry said the event was expected to be full of fun on an otherwise quiet night in Aireys Inlet.<\/p>\n

“The event came about through a few partnerships through organisations such as the Surfrider Foundation, needessentials and SurfAid itself.<\/p>\n

“With a lot of the filming done in and around Indonesia, which is where SurfAid does a lot of its work, it only made sense to raise funds for SurfAid through this screening.”<\/p>\n

Proceeds from the event will be donated to SurfAid to help with their work to improve the health, wellbeing and resilience of remote communities in Indonesia.<\/p>\n

The film focuses on Mr Jones and Mr Martyn developing a performance-focused twin fin that would work at challenging shallow reef passes and atolls, eventually creating a radically different take on a tried and true board shape \u2013 the Simon Jones Designs “Calypte” model.<\/p>\n

“The Ugly Duckling by Torren Martyn and Kelly Foote is a film that gives insight into how genuine surfboard design occurs when there’s a deep connection between surfer and shaper,” Mr Perry said.<\/p>\n

“Anyone is welcome to come and enjoy the film, maybe have a beer or soft drink; it’s just a feel-good event, really.”<\/p>\n

Mr Martyn and Mr Jones will conclude the evening with a Q&A session.<\/p>\n
