{"id":135964,"date":"2024-05-24T01:18:46","date_gmt":"2024-05-23T15:18:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/?p=135964"},"modified":"2024-05-27T20:01:33","modified_gmt":"2024-05-27T10:01:33","slug":"kickstarting-all-aboards-new-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/living\/kickstarting-all-aboards-new-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Kickstarting All Aboard&#8217;s new project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE 2024 edition of the Surf Coast Times Torquay Cup will be run today (Friday, May 24) and\u00a0will this year raise funds for local charity\u00a0All Aboard.<\/p>\n<p>The charity provides personalised and innovative support to adults living with a disability in the Surf Coast community.<\/p>\n<p>Funds raised from the cup will go towards their plans of expanding the services they offer, in a project called The Junction.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/20231023_122438_82840.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"664\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Junction will provide one location for All Aboard&#8217;s participants to go to.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>All Aboard&#8217;s focus is on small things which make a huge difference, presently offering day programs, social and recreational activities, social weekends away and more.<\/p>\n<p>Co-founder of All Aboard Kate Marshall said The Junction would be a &#8220;one-stop shop&#8221; for their services to lessen the stress on people with a disability and their support network.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At the moment we&#8217;re a bit disjointed, we run day programs in two different venues and they&#8217;re not ours, we rent the spaces.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_135971\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-135971\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-135971\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/23.05.2024_11.20.46_REC.png?_t=1716427279\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"650\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/23.05.2024_11.20.46_REC.png 758w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/23.05.2024_11.20.46_REC-276x300.png 276w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-135971\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">As part of the current programs offered participants can take part in cooking as they develop their skills in the kitchen.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In developing The Junction, the team at All Aboard are eager to create a safe space that&#8217;s user-friendly and inclusive for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>The project will expand on the services they currently offer with the intention of establishing a sensory hairdresser, permanent supported housing, respite housing, therapy offices and more.<\/p>\n<p>The Junction will also be equipped with a caf\u00e9 ran by some of All Aboard&#8217;s participants, focussed on building skills and creating purpose within their community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When you first have a child diagnosed with a disability you do wonder what&#8217;s ahead for them,&#8221; Ms Marshall said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/05\/20240224_120601_84330.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Plans for The Junction include a respite facility along with permanent supported housing.
