A NEW level of confidence is flowing through the veins of Surf Coast’s Big V men’s roster, riding a wave of momentum into this week’s matchup with Southern Peninsula.<\/p>\n
The Chargers get on the road to face the Sharks at Rosebud Basketball Stadium, following an upset win over Division 2’s top side Craigieburn last weekend, aiming to collect a fourth consecutive win.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast’s new signing Dexter Graham Jr said the Chargers owe Southern Peninsula a loss, after their opponents knocked them over at home earlier in the season by 16 points.<\/p>\n
“They beat us earlier in the year when we were a few bodies down, so we are definitely heading to Southern Peninsula with the intention to get a win,” Graham Jr said.<\/p>\n
“We know what they bring to the table, so it all falls on us to stick to our gameplan and the strengths we’re good at.<\/p>\n
“If we lose, the blame falls on us only because we didn’t play to the best of our ability.”<\/p>\n
Graham Jr has helped Surf Coast take its play to a new level, ranking second in the competition for assists with 5.1 assists per game and averaging 21.5 points per game.<\/p>\n
The Floridian said he has enjoyed his first season down on the Surf Coast, embracing a different lifestyle and gelling with a new group of teammates who currently sit in fourth spot on the ladder.<\/p>\n
“I love it down here, I love the culture we’re building here at Surf Coast and it’s such a great group of guys,” Graham Jr said.<\/p>\n
“We have quite a few characters to be honest, but I’m enjoying my time in the Torquay area, learning new things and learning different ways to spend my time. It’s great.<\/p>\n
“Dave [Scott] has been a great coach too, giving me the confidence to be me and allowing me to play my way where possible.”<\/p>\n
A win for the Chargers, pending other results, could propel them to the top of the ladder as the side enters the second half of the season.<\/p>\n
