UPGRADE works are under way at the Lorne Transfer Station on Erskine Falls Road.<\/p>\n
Aided by a $250,000 grant from Sustainability Victoria, the works are intended to make the transfer station more user friendly, improving the flow of traffic around the site and increasing the number of waste disposal and recycling options available to visitors.<\/p>\n
As part of the upgrades, the number of bulk bins on site will be doubled from three to six, unloading areas will be sheltered and the green waste drop off area will be sealed.<\/p>\n
The transfer station’s roads will be realigned and reconstructed, storage sheds will be upgraded and fencing, gates and signage around the site will be replaced.<\/p>\n
A new gatehouse will also be constructed to increase the safety of staff on site, and the security of the transfer station will be improved.<\/p>\n
Surf Coast Shire councillor Gary Allen said the upgrades promised several benefits to the local community.<\/p>\n
“This project will be fantastic for locals<\/p>\n
and tourists, with better site layout allowing for traffic to move more easily through the site,” he said.<\/p>\n
“These upgrades will also allow for more recycling on site, saving more waste from landfill and saving locals having to drive to Anglesea to dispose of items properly.”<\/p>\n
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of July.<\/p>\n
The transfer station will remain open throughout the construction period to minimise disruption to visitors, however changed traffic flows will be in place.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
