TORQUAY Wine Store has teamed up with Feed Me Surf Coast to host unique Sunday sessions aimed at supporting the local community.<\/p>\n
Starting at 12.30pm and running until 3.30pm or until sold out, the lunchtime events will see all proceeds from food sales donated to Feed Me Surf Coast.<\/p>\n
Torquay Wine Store co-owner Sarah Dowling said it was a wonderful collaboration.<\/p>\n
“We wanted to do something to benefit the community and bring people into the bar.<\/p>\n
“This way, Feed Me gets a venue to regularly provide lunches, they get all the profit from the food, and people can come in and have a glass of wine and a paella.”<\/p>\n
Each Sunday, the menu will feature different dishes, decided by Feed Me Surf Coast.<\/p>\n
“Feed Me decides what they are going to put on. Today we have a chicken and chorizo paella and a chicken and prawn paella,” Ms Dowling said.<\/p>\n
The paella, set to be a staple at these events, is prepared by Guillermo Sundheim, who originally hails from Seville.
\n“We would cook it at home, as a family dish at big get-togethers and special occasions,” Sundheim said.<\/p>\n
His paella, rooted in family traditions, has been adapted to cater to Australian tastes.<\/p>\n
“What I am cooking is from the Seville area. I’ve made it to cater more for the Australian palate by adding more meat and chorizo,” he explained.<\/p>\n
“We don’t usually put chorizo in ours, but Australians love it, and I do too.<\/p>\n
“I would now cook it with chorizo at home; every family adds their own tweak.”<\/p>\n
Feed Me Surf Coast was established by Lana Purcell and head chef Anthony Woodbury in 2019 to address food waste, mental health, and community engagement.<\/p>\n
The organisation rescues high-quality food that would otherwise go to waste to feed those in need, providing fresh, nutritious meals with respect and dignity.<\/p>\n
“Sundays are hard at the best of times. Rather than thinking of going back to work, come in for something tasty to eat and a nice glass of wine,” Ms Dowling said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
