TORQUAY Surf Life Saving Club (TSLSC) has recently recognised the outstanding service of a couple of long-standing members, and elected a new female president.<\/p>\n
Noel Dubberley and Bryan Thomas were awarded life membership at the club\u2019s 73rd Annual General Meeting.<\/p>\n
Both men have made a significant contribution to the TSLSC and as such were awarded the highest club honour.<\/p>\n
Noel\u2019s achievements include being president of the club from 2013 to 2017, club captain for two years, patrol captain for seven, contributing to 15 years of patrols and becoming a Victorian Masters Surf Boat Champion.<\/p>\n
Bryan\u2019s achievements include winning the Jim Wall Iron Man in 1984, Club Team Manager for four years, patrol captain for two years, competition director from 2011 to 2017 and competing for Australia in Kayaks at Seoul Olympics in 1988.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Tiffany Quinlan was elected as the club\u2019s second female president.<\/p>\n
\u201cI joined as family members when our son joined nippers in 2009,\u201d Tiffany said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI loved the environment so got involved early being an age manager for a number of years, then summer holiday program coordinator officiating at carnivals, and secretary for two and a half years, and now president.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy kids and supportive husband inspired me to step outside my comfort zone and I obtained my surf bronze in 2016.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tiffany said she was not from a surf lifesaving background so initially joined to ensure her kids learned about beach safety and gained valuable skills, as she had decided Torquay was home and a wonderful place to raise a family.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got so much more,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI found a community that has a place for everyone, that develops young children into young adults teaching them not only valuable lifesaving skills but life lessons.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tiffany said her son was still at the club today into his second year of seniors and her daughter moved to a longboard this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving my husband and son patrol together and knowing our daughter will join them this year is pretty special,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
