THE tenth year of the Surf Coast Trail Marathon is only a day away and runners are getting into gear for the annual event.<\/p>\n

More than 800 runners are expected to attend this year’s event including Bayswater cyclist David Styles, who has participated in every marathon to date and is lining up for number 10 tomorrow (Saturday, June 15).<\/p>\n

“It’s such a great event and every year is nearly always a bit different,” Mr Styles said.<\/p>\n

“I can recall the navigating of King Tides on several outings as perhaps the most challenging, but adventurous of years.<\/p>\n

“Whatever the weather, we look forward to what this year’s marathon throws at us as no two journeys running along the Surf Coast are ever the same.”<\/p>\n

Runners will again run the length of the Surf Coast Walk from Torquay to Fairhaven.<\/p>\n

Each participant may choose to enter either the full marathon distance (42km) solo or as a relay team of two, or the half marathon distance (21km).<\/p>\n

The full marathon from Fairhaven to Torquay will begin at 8.30am sharp, while half marathon runners (either Torquay to Point Addis or Fairhaven to Point Addis) will begin at 11am.<\/p>\n

Buses will be transferring competitors throughout the day up and down the coast with the event to close at approximately 5pm.<\/p>\n

Race director and owner of Tour de Trails Chris Ord said the event was open to runners of any experience, whether it be first-timers or experienced joggers such as Mr Styles.<\/p>\n

“We give thanks to runners like Dave and local running clubs like the Surf Coast Trail Runners who have always supported us by participating or as volunteers.<\/p>\n

“And to the Surf Coast Shire for their enduring support of this and many other local events through the Surf Coast Events grant program \u2013 it helps keep vibrant events like ours alive and thriving.”<\/p>\n
